The Best B Corp Office Providers

B Corporation is a business certification that recognises the positive impact that an organisation has on society as a whole. B Corps are required to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. To become a B Corp, companies must score a minimum of 80 points on the B Impact Assessment™ tool. Points are earned through factors like fair pay for employees, positive impact on the environment and society, transparent governance and business practices, and more.

In addition to meeting B Lab's standards for social and environmental performance, B Corps must recertify every three years and report their impact annually through B Impact Assessments. These reports measure impact across five areas: people (living wages), planet (environmental sustainability), public benefit (impact on communities), products & services (products that matter), and profits/returns (economic prosperity).

Many businesses are now actively looking to work from a B Corp-certified workspace. The environmental efficiency of a B Corps office is scored within the Assessment, so it’s important for these organisations to consider factors like this when choosing workspace. But more than that, B Corp offices are designed to be more than just a place to work: they're designed to be a community space where people come together to create positive change in the world.

X+Why

From day one, X+Why has been driven by sustainability and the environment. They have done a lot to draw attention to the importance of sustainability in the workplace. It markets itself as ‘Flexible workspace for purpose-driven businesses.’  Office Spaces such as 1 Great Cumberland Place have received a BREEAM 'excellent' rating.

Not only are they B Corp-certified themselves, but they encourage their tenants to get the certification also, through their ‘Mission Lit Programme’, they support members on their journey to becoming more responsible businesses and then recognise and reward them for their efforts. 

They design their spaces to be as sustainable as possible - from the chairs to the lighting, and even their living roofs.

X+Why have a growing number of offices in London and Birmingham - with new offices popping up across the country. Two of our favourites are People’s Mission Hall (residents get 5-7 B Corp points just by being in the building) in Aldgate and The Fulwood in Chancery Lane.

Runway East 

Runway East became certified in July 2022. Based on their B Impact Assessment, Runway East Limited earned an overall score of 97.5, which is well above the minimum of 80. They are committed to making changes for the better, including:

Runway East has a number of sites across the UK, located in London and Bristol. They have two great new sites  - one in Shoreditch and one in Aldgate. The Runway East venues are loved by everyone - with amazing amenities and community teams. A fab place to be a startup (and a sustainable one!). Runway East are in the process of reviewing its full carbon footprint (including supply chain) to understand areas that it can improve.

Work.Life joined the growing list of B Corp-certified workspaces in January 2022. Their mission is to create workspaces which have a positive impact on the people using them as well as the environment. 

Their studies have shown that 91% of their members are happier since joining Work.Life. This extends further than just the external people using their offices daily, prioritising the happiness and well-being of their internal team is also of top priority and this is even one of their company-wide KPIs. They have a budget of £74k per year which is dedicated solely to delivering ‘team joy’ and have taken steps to improve many of their internal policies. 

When it comes to protecting the planet, Work.Life have taken great strides to reduce their carbon emissions through the implementation of a more sustainable waste management system. They also now use 88% renewable energy across all their sites. The Work.Life team have an ambitious plan over the next three years make sure sustainability is at the core of all their business functions and improve on their metrics even more. 

Work.Life operates a growing portfolio of 12 buildings across London, Manchester and Reading. They also have a 13th due to open mid-next year in Borough. Uncommon are one of the most recent workspace providers to join the growing list of B Corps within the industry. They received their status in April 2023 with an impressive score of 98.2. In 2023 Uncommon also became carbon neutral and they have ambitious plans to be fully net zero by 2027, placing them ahead of the curve. 

A big part of the B Corp process is insuring that every element of your business meets the rigorous standards needed to pass. This includes your supply chain. Uncommon have put a lot of effort into creating a code of conduct for their suppliers to make sure their values on sustainability and workplace diversity align with their own. By 2025 it is their plan to unsure every business in their supply chain is operating within compliance of their code of conduct. 

Uncommon have become renowned within the industry for how thoughtfully and beautifully designed their buildings are. Our team is particularly fond of Uncommon Borough where space has been designed to create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. We’re also big fans of the snack bar!

Second Home were one of the first office providers in the UK to become B Corp certified, achieving this goal in December 2019. 

One of their most notable initiatives is the incorporation of extensive biophilic design elements across all their locations. Each building houses 1,000s of plants, creating a lush, green environment that not only enhances aesthetics but also significantly boosts the well-being and productivity of the occupants. 

Second Home has four amazing and unique buildings across London. It’s hard to pick a favourite but the whole Tally Workspace team loves Second Home Spitalfields, especially the top floor with its views over East London.

There are a growing number of B Corp-certified workspaces. Others include EOffice, Agora and ARK. It is amazing to see the choice expand.
