Stephanie Comstock, Senior Customer Experience Team Lead at BrüMate shares with us her thoughts on collaborating remotely, and how it is still possible to recognise high performing employees in a virtual office. BrüMate is a company founded in 2016, that are all about creating innovative products and crafting good times, and produce stylish products that allow you to worry less and drink more.

What is the biggest advantage to the company of working remotely?

Our team has learned how to collaborate remotely and pivot through the challenges COVID has brought, not only regarding sales and marketing, but also internal processes and communication. Before COVID shut the world down, our company worked from one office and utilized the free collaboration that arises when you work together in one room. Most importantly, COVID has allowed us to align with our brand and the importance of employee safety. Putting our employees above the profit that may arise from travel, trade shows, etc. was a no-brainer for us.

Remote-Friendly or Remote-First?

We are remote-first! We have an office that we have not yet been able to use, but the safety of our employees comes first. With multiple employees that are immunocompromised (including myself), we want to make sure we are all safe and healthy. When our office does open up, we plan to slowly roll out open office hours with sign-ups and rigorous COVID safety guidelines.

How do you maintain and create a company culture when working remotely?

Our company culture is paramount - it’s the innovation, creativity, and passion of our employees that brings new and exciting products, programs, and initiatives to our brand. We hold weekly meetings with our teams and our full company and have created new programs to recognise high performing employees. In our company, “high performing” is not only determined by exceeding KPIs - it’s also determined by strong collaboration, willingness to help, initiative, and leadership!

Where is your favourite place to work from when working remotely?

I personally enjoy working from the comfort of my own home. I’ve got a desk set up with a second screen to enhance my efficiency, and I enjoy listening to music and podcasts in the background.
